The San Antonio Express-News is reporting that the 22-year-old son of Tejano star Emilio Navaira III has been arrested on DWI charges. In the early morning hours of February 23rd, 2013, a police officer pulled over Emilio Casias Navaira IV as he was entering the ramp to southbound U.S. 281 from Northwest Loop 410 in his white SUV.
The arresting officer reported that Navaira had bloodshot eyes and appeared intoxicated. Navaira allegedly was moving in an uncoordinated manner and could not hold his balance during a field sobriety test. The officer also administered a breath test to Navaira, but the results were unavailable.
At the time of his arrest, Navaira reported that he had had a margarita with his dinner at Henry’s Puffy Tacos. He also allegedly stated that he had been texting his mother and listening to music when the arresting officer pulled him over in his vehicle.
Navaira was released from jail after paying $1,000 bail.
Navaira’s father commented only that he had discussed the severity of the alleged DWI with his son, and hoped that he would learn a lesson from the incident. The younger Navaira, however, declined to comment on his arrest.
The elder Navaira is no stranger to DWI charges. Back in 2008, the Tejano star pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated after he crashed his tour bus, was ejected through the front windshield, and sustained a major brain injury. His now-former bandmate, Ricardo Vega, was also injured and sued Navaira civilly for his injuries related to the accident.
As these incidents illustrate, driving while intoxicated can lead not only to criminal charges, but to serious injuries to the driver and others, as well as to civil liability in some cases. For these reasons, it is essential that you have a strong defense if you are charged with DWI. For assistance with DWI or related charges, contact your San Antonio criminal defense attorney today.
